One of the most fascinating elements of the Strada Napoleonica are the breathtaking views of the Gulf of Trieste and the city below, you can see both the Miramare Castle and the Vittoria Lighthouse. Along the path there are observation points that allow you to admire the coast, the city and, on clear days, also the Istrian coast and the Grado lagoon. The path crosses a typical Karst landscape, with Mediterranean vegetation and woodland sections.

The Sage Path is a fascinating, very simple hiking route that offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Trieste and crosses natural areas rich in typically Mediterranean vegetation. The trail takes its name from the sage plant, which grows abundantly along the route.

Features of the trail

- Length: The route is approximately 2 kilometres long, and is considered to be of medium difficulty, suitable for amateur hikers and families. It can be done in about 1-2 hours, depending on the pace and the stops.

- Location: The start of the path is indicated near the town of Aurisina. At the beginning of the Sage Trail, you will find a sign that will indicate two different routes: the Sage Trail and the Fisherman's Trail. You will have to pay attention to the sign with the number 3.

- Views and nature: The Sentiero della Salvia is known for its panoramic position overlooking the Gulf of Trieste. Along the route you will encounter a variety of Mediterranean plants, including, in addition to sage, rosemary, junipers, thyme and lavender. The landscape alternates between stretches of forest, Mediterranean scrub and clearings overlooking the sea

The Rilke Path is one of the most evocative hiking routes in Friuli Venezia Giulia, starting from Sistiana and reaching Duino. It takes its name from the famous Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who stayed at Duino Castle between 1911 and 1912 and found inspiration for some of his works, including the famous "Duino Elegies".

- Duration: The journey time is approximately 40-60 minutes, depending on the pace and any stops to admire the view.

Points of interest

Castello di Duino: The path starts near Duino Castle, an ancient 14th century manor house, still inhabited today by the princes of the Thurn und Taxis family. The castle can be visited and is one of the main tourist attractions in the area.

Falesie di Duino: The high limestone cliffs constitute one of the distinctive features of the path. These cliffs were formed through erosion processes and offer a unique environment for nature and photography lovers.

Resti storici: Along the path you can find traces of military posts dating back to the First World War, as the area was an important strategic point during the conflict.

Belvedere panoramici: The path is dotted with numerous panoramic points equipped with benches and parapets, where visitors can stop to contemplate the seascape. These spots are ideal for taking a break and taking photographs
