The three colors symbolize the cycle of life: white is birth, pink is life and brown is death.

Putizza is a traditional Trieste dessert of Austro-Hungarian origin, typical of the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. It is a rich and sumptuous dessert, which reflects the Central European influences of Trieste cuisine. The putizza is characterized by a leavened dough wrapped in a spiral that contains a sweet filling, rich in dried fruit and spices.

Traditional ingredients include: Leavened dough: prepared with flour, butter, sugar and yeast.

Rich filling: usually made with walnuts, almonds, raisins, chocolate, cinnamon, lemon and orange zest, and often flavored with liqueurs such as rum or marsala.
