Events La Barcolana

The Barcolana is one of the most iconic sailing regattas in the world, and is held every year in the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October. What makes it so special is its inclusive formula, which allows both professional sailors and enthusiasts to participate together, regardless of the size of the boats. During the 50th edition in 2018, the Barcolana won the title of “Largest Sailing Race” from the Guinness Book of Records thanks to the 2689 boats registered, setting a world record.

The regatta takes place on a course approximately 15 nautical miles long and goes from the Castello di to the finish line in front of Piazza Unità.

In 2018, given the large participation, the starting line was extended by 500 meters, reaching a total length of two nautical miles. This made it possible to welcome all the boats, confirming the extraordinary and popular character of the event, which has become a true festival of the sea in Trieste.
