Motorway Vignetta in Slovenia

The Slovenian motorway vignette is a prepaid toll system that allows motorists to use motorways and expressways in Slovenia. Introduced in 2008, the vignette is mandatory for all motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, including cars, motorcycles and campers, when traveling on the country’s motorways and major expressways.

Type of Vignette

There are different vignette options depending on the type of vehicle and the duration needed. The main categories are:

Class 2A Vehicles: Automobiles and vehicles with a height above the front axle of less than 1.3 metres.
Class 2B Vehicles: Vehicles with a height above the front axle greater than 1.3 meters (e.g. some SUVs, vans).
Class 1: Motorcycles.

Duration and prices

The vignette is available in three durations, each with a different price:

Weekly: Ideal for short trips or holidays. Validity is 7 consecutive days.
Monthly: Valid for 30 days, useful for longer stays or repeated trips to Slovenia.
Annual: Valid for 14 months, from 1 December of the previous year until 31 January of the following year, a convenient choice for those who travel frequently to Slovenia.

Purchase

The cartoons can be purchased:

Online via the official website or authorized resellers.
Service stations in Slovenia and neighboring countries (Italy, Austria, Croatia).
Post offices and various shops near the borders.

From 1 December 2021, Slovenia introduced the electronic vignette (e-vignette), which replaced the old adhesive version. Now the purchase takes place by registering the vehicle license plate, simplifying checks and purchasing. Once you purchase the electronic vignette, there is no need to display anything on the windshield.
